This cast resin block stool is a plain upright block, flat on top and square on all four sides, and everything of interest is inside it. Lengths of charred timber stand upright within the mass, dark brown and black, with pale sapwood showing where the bark has gone and scorched fibrous edges where it has burnt. Between them sit short fragments of dark organic matter. The resin around them is a clear warm amber that lightens towards the outer faces, so the timber is seen at slightly different depths from each side.
The interest is entirely internal and the outside is kept plain for that reason. The block is a plain rectangular solid, sawn flat and square, with no shaping, no chamfer and no texture on any face. Inside stand lengths of charred timber, upright, with pale sapwood where the bark has gone and blackened fibrous edges where it has burnt, and short fragments of dark organic matter gathered between them. The amber around them clears towards the outer faces, which means each side of the block offers the timber at a slightly different depth and the arrangement never looks the same twice. Every block is different because no two pieces of burnt timber are.
At 45cm it is a stool when you need a seat and a table when you need a surface, and it is compact enough to move about a room as needed. The timber inside only reads when light passes through the block, so a window or a lamp behind it is worth far more than a dark corner, where it goes to a solid dark mass. The sawn top is flat and level and will take a drink or a book. It is heavy for its size. Keep it inside.
Reckon on 3–4 weeks for a standard piece, or 5–6 weeks for a bespoke one. The encased timber is the slow part. Three elements are left to you. The tint is open, the block can be made to a size you name, and the top can be supplied domed instead of sawn flat. What goes inside is ours to select, since no two pieces of burnt timber are alike. Span across the block and overall height are quoted to your own figures. Several ordered together are worked so that the arrangement of timber inside the block agrees. The crate is packed to keep the four sawn corners of the block clear, and it takes one person to move. Our main studios are in the UK (Birmingham) and Dubai, with additional global workshops.
Charred timber held upright in a sawn block gives our art furniture a stool with a story inside; the burnt wood set in resin belongs with our contemporary and modern sculptures, and a reading chair's side among our indoor sculptures.

Almost every sculpture at Giant Sculptures is handmade to order, then shipped worldwide free of charge. Below is everything you need to know before you order, and what to expect after.
Almost every sculpture is handmade to order by our artisans — we do not mass-produce.
Production time is separate from delivery time.
Shipping is free worldwide on every sculpture, regardless of size or destination. Standard delivery is by sea freight, typically 6–8 weeks after production is complete.
Express air freight is available on request at additional cost, with delivery in up to 10 days. Ask us before placing your order, or straight after, and we will confirm the cost for your destination.
All sculptures ship in reinforced protective crating, fully insured to purchase value.
Delivery is to the door or curbside at your shipping address.
For larger sculptures shipped by sea freight, the carrier will contact you in advance to arrange a delivery window. Please ensure someone is available to accept the delivery and that the property has suitable access for the size of the piece.
Once the sculpture arrives, you are responsible for positioning it in its final display location. For larger or heavier pieces, we recommend arranging two people (family, friends, or a local moving service) to help with placement.
For orders shipping outside the United Kingdom, any customs duties, import taxes, or local fees at your destination country are the responsibility of the customer. These charges are set by your local authority and are not included in our shipping cost.
If you have questions about customs for your specific country, contact us before ordering and we can advise on typical charges for your region.
Where an order qualifies, we accept returns within 14 days of receipt, in original condition and original packaging, subject to our Terms & Conditions.
Because our sculptures are made individually, most orders do not qualify. Returns do not apply to any item that is not held in stock, is made to order, or is custom or bespoke.
To check whether your order qualifies, contact us within 14 days of receipt. On a qualifying return, return shipping is at the customer's cost, a 25% restocking fee applies, and original shipping charges are not refunded.
Every sculpture ships fully insured. In the unlikely event of damage during transit:
Every sculpture carries a lifetime guarantee against finish defects under normal display conditions, subject to our Terms & Conditions.
This covers manufacturing defects, premature finish degradation, and structural failures under normal display. It does not cover damage caused by accidents, misuse, inappropriate environments (for example, an indoor-only sculpture placed outdoors), or modifications made after delivery.
If you have questions about shipping, customs, delivery timing, or anything else before you order, our team is here to help. Contact us via WhatsApp, email, or phone, and we'll respond within 24 hours.
