About Our Resin Sculptures
Resin is the material that made contemporary sculpture affordable without making it cheap. Cast into a mould it holds detail finer than bronze can, takes a sprayed finish that metal will not accept, and comes out at a weight one person can carry. That combination is why almost every art toy, chrome figure and bright-lacquered piece made in the last twenty years is resin.
It is also why this is our largest single-material collection. Nine in ten pieces here are cast resin, with a smaller fibreglass group for the larger forms. Finishes run from matt and gloss single colours through chrome and metallic to graffiti, marbling and multi-colour work, none of which is achievable on cast metal at this price.
The subjects follow the material. Astronauts, Iconify figures, animals and bears account for most of it, with a substantial abstract group, and pop art treatments run throughout. Browse those in astronaut sculptures, Iconify sculptures and pop art sculptures.
This is an interior material, and that is the one thing to be clear about: 98 per cent of the collection is rated indoors only, because a sprayed finish on resin fades and chalks in permanent sun and rain. Scale is smaller than our other ranges, with nearly half between 30cm and 79cm. For outdoor work at similar scale see bronze sculptures and stainless steel sculptures.
Every resin sculpture we make is handcrafted to order by our artists, designed in Birmingham and made in our worldwide studios. Standard production takes around three to four weeks, and we offer free worldwide shipping. Get in touch if you would like a custom colour or finish.
FAQs
Is resin a cheap substitute for bronze?
It is a different material for different work. Resin holds finer detail than bronze can, takes sprayed chrome and lacquer finishes that metal will not accept, and weighs a fraction as much. Bronze is the choice for permanent outdoors; resin is the choice for colour and fine detail indoors.
Can resin sculptures go outdoors?
Generally no. Ninety-eight per cent of this collection is rated for interiors, because a sprayed finish fades and chalks in permanent weather and water will get into a chipped surface.
How durable is it?
Robust indoors, comparable to a car body panel, but it will chip on a sharp impact. Solid colours can be touched up; chrome and graffiti finishes are harder to repair invisibly, so place those where they will not be knocked.
What sizes are available?
Smaller on average than our other ranges. Nearly half sits between 30cm and 79cm, with around one in ten under 30cm and one in ten above 160cm.
How do I clean it?
A soft cloth with warm water and mild detergent, dried afterwards. Avoid solvents, alcohol and abrasives, all of which attack lacquer. Treat a gloss or chrome finish exactly as you would car paint.
How are they made, and how long do they take?
Every piece is cast and finished by hand to order by our artists, designed in Birmingham and made in our worldwide studios. Standard production takes around three to four weeks, and we offer free worldwide shipping.
