The Monumental Seated Budai Bronze Sculpture stands at an imposing 220cm, presenting the Laughing Buddha in his most iconic form: broad-shouldered, wide-bellied, and radiating an open-mouthed joy that is impossible to ignore. The figure is cast with exceptional volumetric confidence, robes parting naturally across a prominent rounded belly, left hand raised to carry a large prayer bead mala, right hand resting in composed ease.
This piece is cast using the traditional lost-wax method, allowing every fold of the robe, every bead of the mala, and the full warmth of the figure's expression to be faithfully rendered in metal. The surface is finished to a highly polished gold-toned bronze, delivering a bright, uniform reflectivity that catches light across the figure's broad planes and deep-carved details. Unlike patinated bronzes that recede into shadow, this finish announces itself: luminous, ceremonial, and commanding. The cylindrical stone plinth on which the figure is seated adds visual grounding, its panelled lower section lending architectural weight to an already substantial presence.
At 220cm tall and 450kg, this sculpture is scaled for significant outdoor environments. Temple courtyards, formal garden axes, estate entrances, hotel forecourts, and large commercial landscaping schemes are natural settings. The gold tone works especially well against dark evergreen planting, pale stone paving, or water features where the reflection doubles its impact. The stone plinth integrates seamlessly with formal hardscaping in grey, cream, or sandstone palettes.
The gold polished finish shown here is our standard specification, but we can apply a full range of patinas including traditional dark brown, verdigris, or two-tone antiqued bronze. The scale of this piece can be adjusted for different site requirements, and the plinth can be specified separately for installations requiring a flush base. If you are considering a commission inspired by the work of Dai Ruifei or other monumental figurative sculptors working in this tradition, we welcome that conversation. Contact us before ordering to discuss your site, finish, and any bespoke requirements.
