Monumental Modern Abstract Cellist Bronze Sculpture stands at an imposing 320cm and presents a massively volumetric seated figure locked in the act of playing a double bass, the human form and instrument dissolving into one continuous, swelling mass of rounded bronze.
This sculpture is cast using the traditional lost-wax method, which allows the full complexity of its organic, flowing contours to be preserved from model to finished bronze. Every surface is worked by hand after casting: smooth black patina bronze is applied and sealed to produce the deep, consistent matte tone that defines the piece. The bow of the cello is rendered as a clean linear form crossing the strings, the scroll and neck of the double bass rise clearly above the figure, and the head resolves to a small, precise sphere atop a flowing neck, each element carefully resolved during finishing. The result is a work of monumental abstract bronze sculpture with the kind of surface discipline that reads powerfully both at close range and across distance.
At 320cm and 1,000kg, this piece commands serious architectural scale. It suits grand entrance halls, corporate atria, hotel lobbies, concert venues, and large-scale landscaped terraces or plazas. The black patina holds equally well outdoors and indoors, pairing with pale stone, polished concrete, or dark timber. The vivid red geometric plinth supplied with the piece creates a deliberate chromatic contrast that anchors the sculpture visually, but the bronze itself will also read cleanly against neutral plinths where a quieter palette is preferred.
We offer full patina customisation: the black matte finish shown here is the standard specification, but traditional warm bronze, verdigris, silver, and gold leaf patinas are all available. Scale adjustments and fully bespoke commissions are welcomed. The figure's visual character is inspired by the work of Jean Louis Toutain, and clients wishing to discuss scale, patina, or a site-specific adaptation are encouraged to contact us before ordering.
This piece is featured across our Bronze Sculptures collection, our curated Bronze Abstract Sculptures range, and our Large Bronze Sculptures selection for monumental-scale commissions.
