The Life-Size Grandparents and Grandchildren on Bench Bronze Sculpture stands 250cm wide and presents four figures in an unhurried, deeply human moment: an elderly man absorbed in his newspaper, two children settled between the grandparents, and an elderly woman leaning gently toward a young girl with a book open in her hands. The composition reads as utterly natural, as though the four have simply been there all along.
Each figure is produced using the traditional lost-wax casting method, which preserves the extraordinary surface detail present throughout this piece: the fine pleats of a collar, the button-down texture of the old man's shirt, the ruffled blouse of the grandmother, the bare feet of the young boy. The deep dark brown patina is applied by hand across all four figures and the integral slatted park bench, creating tonal consistency that reads as warm and grounded rather than decorative. This is figurative bronze casting at a genuinely high level of craft, where every gesture and garment fold has been resolved before the metal is poured.
At 900kg and life-size in scale, this sculpture commands significant space. It suits civic and institutional settings, hotel lobbies, public gardens, landscaped estate grounds, and large private courtyards. The dark bronze palette sits comfortably against stone paving, aged brick, clipped hedging, and polished concrete alike. Because the piece requires no plumbing and carries no garden-specific elements, it transitions naturally between interior and exterior environments.
The sculpture can be finished in a range of patinas beyond the standard dark brown: verde antique, mid-tone natural bronze, or a statuary black are all available on request. Commissioned scale variants, from three-quarter scale for residential courtyards to modest reductions for indoor gallery settings, are possible. The composition can also be explored as a bespoke commission inspired by the work of John Seward Johnson II if specific figurative realism or alternative narrative groupings are required. Contact us before ordering to discuss your specification.
