The Large Contemporary Crab Bronze Sculpture stands 150cm tall, its broad carapace and twin raised chelae commanding immediate attention. Both claws are thrust upward in a wide, defensive display, the jointed legs spread beneath the shell with anatomical precision that rewards close inspection.
This sculpture is produced using the traditional lost-wax casting method, which captures every surface detail with fidelity: the segmented leg joints, the spiny carapace edge, the tapered claw tips. The finish is a dark grey-green patina, applied and hand-worked after casting to age naturally across the form. Polished highlights on the upper carapace introduce a controlled reflectivity, so the piece reads differently in morning light than it does at dusk. At 400kg, the monumental cast bronze has substantial physical presence and requires no anchoring to convey permanence.
This is a sculpture suited to generous outdoor settings: a formal lawn, a coastal garden, a wide stone terrace, or a courtyard where water and salt air already govern the palette. The patina will deepen and develop outdoors over time. Indoors, it works in double-height entrance halls, atria, or commercial lobbies where scale is an asset rather than a constraint. The grey-green tones sit comfortably against natural stone, dark timber, and pale render alike.
We offer a range of patina finishes beyond the standard dark grey-green, including warm brown, verdigris, and polished natural bronze. The sculpture can also be commissioned at an alternative scale to suit a specific site or interior volume. Contact us before ordering to discuss finish options, site dimensions, or installation requirements.
