Stainless Steel Sculptures

Mirror-polished steel is the only sculptural material that shows you its surroundings instead of itself. A polished form standing in a garden holds the sky, the planting and the light in its surface, and changes completely between a clear morning and an overcast afternoon. Nothing else we make is so dependent on where it stands.

It is also the most durable material in the catalogue. Marine-grade stainless does not rust, does not need sealing and does not develop a patina, so a piece looks the same in twenty years as it did on delivery. That is why almost the entire collection is rated for permanent outdoor display, and why it is the material of choice for public and commercial commissions.

The work is overwhelmingly abstract and contemporary: flowing organic forms, folded and twisted sheet, spheres and interlocking rings, alongside a run of stylised animals and figures. Roughly two thirds are mirror-polished and the rest brushed or coloured, and around a quarter combine steel with another material. Position it where there is something worth reflecting. A polished piece against a blank fence wastes the material, while the same piece opposite planting, water or a facade earns its keep. Sizes run from 30cm to over four metres, spread fairly evenly, and around a third stand above 160cm.
