The Large Classical Crouching Lion Bronze Sculpture stands 140cm tall, depicting a lion in a commanding forward crouch, his right paw pressed firmly onto a serpent beneath him. The head is lowered, expression fierce and intent, the layered mane fanning outward with a density of texture that rewards close examination.
This piece is produced using the traditional lost-wax casting method, which preserves every nuance of the original model: the deep grooves between mane layers, the tension across the lion's shoulders, the naturalistic curl of the serpent underfoot. The surface is hand-finished in a dark antique bronze patina, with green verdigris oxidation concentrated in the mane recesses and along the integral rectangular bronze plinth. The result is a finish that reads as genuinely aged, not artificially distressed. At 450kg, this is a sculpture with genuine physical presence, the kind of weight that anchors a space rather than simply occupying it.
The scale and Classical character of this piece make it equally appropriate for formal interiors and substantial outdoor settings. Stone-flagged terraces, walled gardens with period architecture, entrance halls, or reception lobbies all suit it well. The dark bronze and verdigris tones sit comfortably against pale limestone, aged brick, dark hardwood, and natural stone. Because the bronze plinth is integral to the casting, no separate base is required for placement, though a flat, level surface capable of supporting the weight is essential.
We offer a range of patina options beyond the standard dark antique, including mid-tone brown, warm golden bronze, and full verdigris. The piece can also be produced at adjusted scales to suit specific architectural contexts. Those wishing to commission a bespoke variation, or who would like guidance on placement and specification, should contact us before ordering.
