The Classical Medusa Head Bronze Relief is an 80cm circular wall medallion cast in solid bronze, presenting the gorgoneion in full frontal force: wide staring eyes edged with scroll detail, a small jewelled bindi at the centre of the forehead, and a crown of scaled serpents radiating outward as living, writhing hair. This is not decorative pastiche. It is a serious, high-relief interpretation of one of antiquity's most enduring icons.
Every piece begins as a hand-sculpted original before being committed to the lost-wax casting process, ensuring the fine scale texture of each serpent, the spiral forehead motifs, and the projecting planes of the face are preserved in exact detail. The finished surface carries a warm antique bronze patina: raised surfaces pull toward rich brown-bronze, while recessed areas hold a deep green-teal oxidation that reads as shadow and age. The effect is immediate and three-dimensional even at a distance. At 60kg, the disc mounts flush to the wall and carries the physical authority of museum-grade bronze work.
Conceived as an interior statement, this relief suits stone-faced entrance halls, double-height stairwells, library walls, and any architectural interior where a single focal point is needed. It reads powerfully against raw concrete, aged plaster, dark timber panelling, and dressed stone. The antique patina holds its integrity indoors without additional weatherproofing.
We can adjust the diameter and overall scale, alter the patina finish to a polished natural bronze, a dark statuary black, or a custom aged tone, and work to bespoke brief if you require a commission inspired by the work of Benvenuto Cellini or other classical traditions in relief sculpture. Contact us before ordering to discuss scale and finish options.
