At the top the white tip leans away to one side, so the flame seems to bend in a draught. A thin silver-grey upright carries it on a flat plate, and the upright and the plate are supplied with the flame.

Violet and Lime Wrapped Round a Clear Sphere

The colours are blended rather than banded, so each one fades into the next along the twist and there is no hard line anywhere. Milky white at both ends frames the stronger colours in the middle, which is where the eye settles, on the lime against the clear sphere. The twist is cut so that the flame faces a different way at the top and at the foot, and a quarter turn of the piece changes which colour leads. Turning it slowly shows the blend at work.

Its soft violets suit a bedroom or a dressing room, and the lime gives it enough brightness for a desk in a study. It looks well against grey or white walls, where the milky white ends read crisply, and light from a window to one side makes the colours glow. It is compact enough to move from room to room with the seasons.

Changing the Blend and the Turn

As standard the build runs 3–4 weeks, and as a bespoke commission 5–6. The colour run can be changed, to rose and amber or to blue and green, or kept to two colours instead of four, and the sphere can be tinted rather than clear. The twist can be turned more tightly for a more restless flame, or opened out for a calmer one. It is cushioned in a foam-lined box, every curve held clear of the sides, and needs nothing more than careful unpacking. Our main studios are in the UK (Birmingham) and Dubai, with additional global workshops.

A flame blended from violet to lime belongs with our abstract sculptures; a twist of colour round a clear sphere suits our resin sculptures, and a soft-toned piece for a dressing room joins our indoor sculptures.

Specification

Height

45cm

Width

14cm

Depth

–

Metal Upright and Plate

–

Material

Coloured Resin with a Clear Sphere, Metal Upright and Plate
