turquoise-water-ripple-carved-acrylic-disc-sculpture-120cm
Turquoise Water Ripple Carved Acrylic Disc Sculpture - 120cm

Description

A broad disc of turquoise acrylic, carved by machine across its whole face into the soft, overlapping ripples of shallow water. The colour pales where the carving rises and deepens in the hollows, so the surface reads like a sunlit pool, and the disc is slim and made to lie flat.

Shallow Water Carved Into a Disc

The ripples are cut into the acrylic by machine, so the pattern runs evenly from edge to edge without a seam, and every hollow is smoothed so the surface catches light the way moving water does. Turquoise suits it: deep where the carving dips and pale on the crests, so the disc has a depth that a flat colour could not give it. The edge is left clean and slightly rounded, so the disc reads as a single slice of water lifted from a pool. Seen from across a room the pattern reads as light on water; close to, the individual ripples show.

At 120cm it is laid flat on a low plinth, or on the floor in an entrance or a garden room, where it is looked down into like a pool. Light falling across it from a window or a lamp brings the ripples up, while overhead light alone flattens them. A plain floor of stone or pale wood lets the turquoise read.

The Ripples, the Turquoise and Delivery

Ours is a 3–4 week build as standard, and a 5–6 week build when the commission is bespoke. The disc can be cut at another diameter, in clear, blue or green acrylic, and the ripples carved finer or broader. A stand can be made so that it is shown on edge instead of flat, and the ripples can also be cut into a square or an oval panel. It is crated flat with both faces covered, and lifting it level is a job for two. Our main studios are in the UK (Birmingham) and Dubai, with additional global workshops.

Water rippling across a carved face belongs with our abstract sculptures; a disc of machine-carved acrylic leads to our acrylic sculptures, and a perfect circle laid flat joins our geometric sculptures.

Specification

Height

3cm

Width

120cm

Depth

120cm

Material

Machine-Carved Turquoise Acrylic
