Turquoise gathers at the joint where the two wings meet and clears to colourless across both outer blades, though a streak of it climbs the inner fold of the taller wing almost to its point. Nothing comes under it. The two wings meet at a foot broad enough to stand on.\u003c\/p\u003e\u003ch2\u003eOne Form Pretending to Be Two\u003c\/h2\u003e\u003cp\u003eTwo wings rising from a single foot are one form pretending to be two, and the gap between them is where the pretence is kept up. The tell is that neither face was treated as a back, and on a piece assembled from parts one of them always is. Both inner faces of the resin are worked to the same standard as the outer ones, which a material that could be joined afterwards would never need. Polished throughout, with fine bubbles left through the thickness rather than worked out of it.\u003c\/p\u003e\u003cp\u003eA console where it can be seen from the front, since the gap only reads square on. Something plain behind, so the gap between the wings stays a gap and does not fill with detail. Light from behind passes between the wings and separates them; from the front they read as one mass. From the side it is a single leaning form, and only from the front are there two of anything.\u003c\/p\u003e\u003ch2\u003eOpening the Gap, and Getting It Home\u003c\/h2\u003e\u003cp\u003eIn the workshop a standard piece takes 3–4 weeks and a bespoke commission 5–6. The gap is opened wider, the turquoise is carried up one wing, and the tips are cut level. Open the gap and the foot is broadened to hold it, because everything above stands on that one joint. A single piece in a fitted crate, bedded under the foot and lifted out by it, and there is nothing to assemble once it is standing. It is carried by the foot alone, and never by a tip.
