A small black rock of the same form stands on the surface above the plinth. The two supports are deliberately unlike each other.\u003c\/p\u003e\u003ch2\u003eOne Blade and One Rock\u003c\/h2\u003e\u003cp\u003eThe two supports are unlike each other on purpose, and that asymmetry is the design. At one end a plain rectangular blade of clear resin stands as a leg, thin and so transparent that it barely registers; at the other a black plinth is cast as a rough broken mass with the flat faces and sharp arrises of split stone, opaque and matt. Between them the slab is frosted, coarsely textured on top, and torn to an irregular edge along both long sides, so nothing about its outline was drawn with a rule. The small black rock standing on the surface above the plinth is what ties the two ends together: it repeats the stone language above the frosted plane as well as beneath it, and without it the blade end would read as a different object.\u003c\/p\u003e\u003cp\u003eIt is a standing-height console for an entrance hall or the back of a sofa, and it needs a run of wall a little longer than itself. It has a definite orientation: put the rock plinth at the end people approach from and the blade end against open floor. Both feet need level ground. A plain floor is essential, since pattern reads straight through the frosted slab. Four people. Three elements are left to you. You name the length, the slab comes clear as well as frosted, and the plinth can be finished in a grey or a warm stone tone. You decide whether the small rock is fitted. Overall length and top thickness are made to the figures you give. Order more than one together and the line the torn edge takes is matched across them. Crated with the torn slab edge and the rock standing on it protected, it is a four-person lift.
