Towards one end it rests on a black rock form, and a small black rock sits in the slab above it; at the other end a white upright block carries it. Between the two the slab spans open.

A Struck-Ice Slab on Rock and Block

The slab is clear resin worked to a coarse, crystalline surface that scatters light, with an edge left rough rather than cut square, so it reads as ice rather than glass. Under one end stands a black rock form with the split faces of broken stone, the fibreglass part of the piece, and a small rock of the same black sits in the slab directly above it, so the stone appears both under and over the clear plane. The support at the other end is a plain white upright block, as quiet as the rock is rough, and it comes with the console.

It is a console for a hall, a landing or the back of a sofa, and the slab is long enough to want a clear stretch of wall. Put the rock at the end people arrive from, where its weight reads first, and the white block where the floor is open. The floor beneath both supports must be level. Indoor use only.

The Slab, the Two Supports and Delivery

Lead times run 5–6 weeks bespoke and 3–4 standard. The length can be made to order, the slab can be frosted rather than clear, and the rock can take a grey or a warm sandy tone in place of black. The small rock set into the slab is optional. Consoles ordered together are given rocks of matching character. The slab, the rock and the white block travel separately, each crated, and four people assemble the console in place. Our main studios are in the UK (Birmingham) and Dubai, with additional global workshops.

Rough ice-like resin on a black rock and a white block links this console with our fibreglass sculptures; in a hall it joins our art furniture, and the pairing of rough and quiet supports suits our contemporary and modern sculptures.

Specification

Height

75cm

Width

225cm

Depth

55cm

White Block

–

Material

Clear Cast Resin with a Fibreglass Rock
