The ribbon leaves the floor, loops up and over, crosses itself and comes down again into a second closed loop, so the base reads as a single line drawn in three dimensions rather than as legs. Colour runs along its length: teal where it first rises, through violet at the crossing, to a clear pink at the far loop. The glass is plain and untinted, which leaves the colour entirely to the ribbon below it.

A Ribbon That Changes Colour Along Its Length

The base is one line in three dimensions. It leaves the floor, loops up and over, crosses itself and closes into a second loop, and there is no join anywhere along that path, so the eye cannot find a beginning or an end. Colour runs with the form rather than across it: teal at the rising end, violet where the ribbon crosses, and a clear pink at the far loop, the transitions long enough that no boundary is visible. Every face is polished, including the inner curves of both loops, which are the surfaces hardest to reach and the ones that carry the reflected colour back into the middle of the piece. The glass above is plain and untinted, so it adds a level surface and takes nothing away from the ribbon.

As a full coffee table it wants generous clear floor on every side. The base is the whole interest, so it wants to be seen from more than one side rather than pushed against a sofa; an island position in the middle of a seating group is where the loops read. A plain rug or a plain floor is better than a patterned one, because the pattern shows through the glass and fights the gradient. It is heavy and takes two people. Indoors only.

The Glass, the Loops, and the Order

As standard the build runs 3–4 weeks, and as a bespoke commission 5–6. The graded ribbon is the slow part. Three choices are open. The gradient can be run between two other colours, the glass can be supplied in a different diameter, and the ribbon can be made in a single tint if the gradient is not wanted. Where the transition falls along the ribbon is also yours to nominate. You name the top diameter and the base height. A pair ordered at once will agree on the point where teal gives way to pink; ordered apart they will not. The crate is built around the glass top and the ribbon's open loops, and four people should carry it. Our main studios are in the UK (Birmingham) and Dubai, with additional global workshops.

A ribbon of graded acrylic under glass relates to our acrylic sculptures; the twice-looped line belongs to our abstract sculptures, and the glass-topped table to our art furniture.

Specification

Height

42cm

Diameter

90cm

Material

Graded Cast Acrylic with a Glass Top
