A low white marble block is included beneath the foot.\u003c\/p\u003e\u003ch2\u003eGold-Toned Flakes from Foot to Scalloped Rim\u003c\/h2\u003e\u003cp\u003eFlakes held inside a clear wall behave nothing like flakes on a surface: they sit at different depths, so the wall reads as a space with things floating in it rather than as a skin. Here they run the full height, from the teal at the foot to the clear resin under the scallops, which keeps the colour change and the flakes from becoming the same idea: the teal does the grounding and the flakes do the lifting. The rounded ridges stepping round the wall catch a line of highlight each, so the vessel reads as layered even where it is colourless, and the rim is left smooth and glossy all the way round its scallops.\u003c\/p\u003e\u003cp\u003eA bedside, a bookshelf or a desk takes it, and it rewards being seen close, where the flakes separate one from another. It wants a pale wall behind it, so the gold shows as flecks rather than as glitter, and a lamp to one side rather than overhead, which lights the ridges and leaves the teal foot deep. Any moving source sets the flakes coming on one at a time. The flakes can be scattered more sparsely or left out altogether, the teal deepened, carried further up the wall or exchanged for amber or smoke, and the white marble block made in black. The rim can also be drawn with fewer, broader scallops. Vessel and block travel in one crate, the block packed beneath, and the vessel is raised with a hand under each side of its lower wall, never by the pointed corners.
