A symmetrical figure can be set down almost anywhere and still look considered. This one cannot: the tail gives it a front and a back, and where that tail points becomes a decision about the room rather than about the object. Colour pooled in a drawn tail rather than spread over the body gives the figure a direction, because the darkest point is also the furthest one from the centre.
