The looped tail is the other structural trick: it comes back down to touch the haunch, which stops a long thin curve of stone standing free. The marble is an ivory cream going white where the veining runs pale.\u003c\/p\u003e\u003cp\u003eA standing lion with a raised paw has a direction and a front, so it belongs where it is met head-on or in three-quarter view: the turn of a drive, one side of a gate, the head of a terrace.
