The seat is a deep bowl whose broad walls are left nearly clear, a pale cream where the casting is thinnest. Colour builds wherever the resin does: the legs are a rich translucent russet, and the outer edge of the rim darkens almost to black.

Strong-Tea Brown Under a Nearly Clear Bowl

The tint behaves like smoked glass, thin and pale in the open bowl and dense in the solid parts, so the chair carries its own shading without any paint. Its four legs are heavy posts with rounded edges, and their upper ends can be read through the floor of the bowl as dark brown fingers. The rim rolls outward in a thick lip with a bright line of highlight along its crown. Nothing is left matt: every surface carries a high polish, and the brown warms towards red wherever a leg stands against a window.

Low and deep, it is a chair for settling into with a book or a drink, and it suits a snug, a study or a bedroom corner. The smoky brown sits naturally with walnut, leather, velvet and dark floorboards, and it comes alive under a table lamp in the evening, when the legs turn the colour of amber. Leave some open floor around it so the bowl can be seen in profile.

Depth of Tint, Depth of Seat, and Delivery

Expect 3–4 weeks for a standard piece and 5–6 weeks where the commission is bespoke. The brown can be mixed lighter, towards honey, or carried darker until only the thinnest walls of the bowl still show the room behind them. For a lazier posture the bowl can be hollowed out more, which tips the lip forward and spreads the legs a touch to carry it. It travels complete in a crate of its own, there is nothing to put together, and two people should carry it in. Our main studios are in the UK (Birmingham) and Dubai, with additional global workshops.

Our art furniture holds pieces like this one, made to be used; the soft, flowing outline is shared with our organic sculptures, and the smoked-brown pour with our resin sculptures.

Specification

Height

56cm

Width

64cm

Depth

52cm

Material

Brown-Tinted Cast Resin
