Both ends are coated in a rough, crumpled mass of gold leaf that catches the light like rock with gold running through it. The ring is mounted on black marble, and the stone comes with it.

Gold Leaf on a Smoke Grey Ring

Gold leaf over a rough surface reflects light in every direction, so the two ends sparkle while the smoke grey arc between them stays calm and translucent. The leaf is laid by hand over the crusted texture, pressed into every hollow, and then sealed so it keeps its brightness. The grey is mixed light enough to remain see-through, which lets the fine dark veins read as depth inside the arc rather than as marks on its surface, and the arc is polished to a high shine.

At 42cm it suits a console, a bookcase or a side table where its gold ends can catch a lamp. Grey and gold together sit well in a classic scheme of dark wood and brass, and equally in a modern room of concrete and glass. Turn it square to the light for the most sparkle, and keep the wall behind it plain.

Gold Leaf, Grey Tone and Packing

Figure the difference between standard and bespoke at 3–4 weeks against 5–6. The leaf can be made in silver or copper instead of gold, and the grey taken darker toward black or left almost clear, which makes the gold read brighter still. The gap itself can be narrowed or widened. It ships in a single shallow crate with the gap padded on both sides and the marble packed apart, and it lifts out easily in one person's hands. Our main studios are in the UK (Birmingham) and Dubai, with additional global workshops.

A ring left open at its upper left belongs with our organic sculptures; smoke grey resin clouded with dark veins leads to our resin sculptures, and a gold-flecked accent for a library joins our indoor sculptures.

Specification

Height

36cm

Width

36cm

Depth

8cm

Base

20 x 15 x 6cm

Material

Smoke Grey Cast Resin with Gold Leaf on Black Marble
