It stands on a black marble foot-block that comes with it, and against a pale wall its flared top reads almost black. It is the family's form turned towards evening.

Dark at the Crown, Pale at the Foot

Grading from dark at the top to pale at the foot reverses the usual weighting of a tinted piece, and it makes the arch look as if it is lit from below. The smoke black is deep enough to be opaque at the crown and thins to a translucent grey where the body meets the block. The fin sits in the middle of the grading, half dark and half pale. Polished throughout. It has a quiet, evening character that suits a modern room, and it gives a group of paler pieces a dark anchor.

A console or a study table in a pale room, where a dark piece gives the space an anchor. White or light stone behind it shows the grading; a dark wall swallows the crown. A lamp placed low beside it brightens the pale foot. It sits comfortably with black steel and linen, and with grey concrete.

Darker or Lighter Smoke, and Delivery

Lead times run 5–6 weeks bespoke and 3–4 standard. The smoke can be taken darker, so the whole piece reads black, or lighter, towards grey, and the grading can be turned the other way. A white marble foot-block can be cut for it. Its siblings, from aqua to amber, can each be bought on their own, and a pair can be graded in opposite directions to stand together. It travels boxed with its foot-block, and one pair of hands sets it down. Our main studios are in the UK (Birmingham) and Dubai, with additional global workshops.

Dusky, evening-toned resin of this sort fills part of our resin sculptures, and the same compact arch in lighter colours appears in our organic sculptures and our indoor sculptures.

Specification

Height

65cm

Width

45cm

Depth

16cm

Base

25 x 20 x 6cm

Material

Cast Smoke Black Resin on Black Marble
