On one side a cluster of long blades sweeps up and bends back like a half-closed wing, trailing two points at its outer edge; on the other a single curved blade climbs and curls over into a hooked tip, beside a spray of sharp points that lean out one behind another. Where the resin is deepest, along the edges and in the root, the blue strengthens almost to cobalt.

Sky Blue Wing, Hook and Spray

One colour runs through every blade, so the piece is drawn by its edges. Each blade has a glassy face that reads pale, while its rim holds a much stronger blue, and the effect is of a drawing made in deep blue lines over pale glass. The blades of the wing overlap closely, the hooked blade stands alone as one clean stroke, and the points of the spray are stepped so that each edge stays separate from the one behind it. Each face carries a deep, glassy polish.

Very little depth means it can stand on a slim ledge or at one end of a sideboard, with a plain wall close behind to set off its outline. Against white or soft grey paint the sky blue looks its clearest, and a window at one side brings the deep edges up sharply against the paler faces. Turned square to the room, it shows every blade at once. Indoor use only.

Shades of Blue, the Spray and Delivery

The standard build is 3–4 weeks and the bespoke build 5–6. Your order brings one sky blue wave, sold individually with the marble block it stands on. To commission, ask for an icier or a deeper cobalt blue, more points in the spray or fewer, and a wing drawn out further; the block can be cut in another stone. A fitted case takes it lying flat, every blade wrapped and the block boxed underneath; on arrival it comes out by the solid root along its base and goes straight onto the block. Our main studios are in the UK (Birmingham) and Dubai, with additional global workshops.

A sky blue wing bending back beside a hooked blade and a spray of points sits with our organic sculptures, our resin sculptures and our indoor sculptures.

Specification

Height

42cm

Width

58cm

Depth

9cm

Base

40 x 20 x 6cm

Material

Sky Blue Cast Resin on Black Marble
