It stands on the clear upright cast with it, and no separate base is supplied.\u003c\/p\u003e\u003ch2\u003eOne Angle Doing All the Work\u003c\/h2\u003e\u003cp\u003eTilting a plain rectangular mass is the whole design, and everything the piece does afterwards follows from that one decision about angle. Everything this piece does follows from the angle. Level, it would be a red brick on a clear post; tilted, the eye is given a long axis through the material and a short one across it, and the colour does the rest without anything being drawn. A red that darkens with depth turns a plain rectangular casting into something with a near-black spine and two bright corners, without anything being drawn on it. Polished on every face, with the diagonal arris kept sharp because it is where the two brightnesses meet.\u003c\/p\u003e\u003cp\u003eA desk or a side table, where the view down onto it matters as much as the view across. Pale and even. The dark spine needs something behind it to be read against. Overhead light makes the spine darkest and the ends brightest; side light evens the whole block out. The red mass carries; the darkening along the diagonal is a close-range reward.\u003c\/p\u003e\u003ch2\u003eChanging the Angle, and Delivery\u003c\/h2\u003e\u003cp\u003eOnce ordered, a standard piece takes 3–4 weeks and a bespoke one 5–6. The block can be set at a different angle, the red can be replaced with amber or green, and the upright can be made stouter. Set the block level and the darkening goes, because it exists only where the angle gives the eye more material to look through. One crate with the block cradled separately from the upright inside the packing. One person, hands under the upright. The block is the heavy end and should not lead.
