Deep purple over both coils and the stems that carry them, with no second colour anywhere. A small clear block is supplied beneath. Each coil tightens towards the tip of its horn, as a ram's horn does.

A Fixing That Is Meant to Be Looked Through

Setting the stems into a clear block is what lets the pair stand apart with nothing visible holding them, and it is the reason the block is drawn as small as it is: anything bigger would become the object rather than the fixing. What holds the piece up is the part you are meant not to notice. Coiling metal and setting it in a clear block is what lets the two horns stand apart without anything visible holding them: the block is the whole of the fixing and it is transparent. The coils are left as wound and the block polished on every face.

A console or a wide sideboard, with space either side for the spread. Something pale behind it, since deep purple on a dark ground closes into one shape. Light from the front finds every coil; light from behind reduces the pair to two outlines. The two curves carry across a room and the coiling is a near fact.

Another Spread, Another Purple, and One Crate

Production takes approximately 3–4 weeks for a standard piece, or 5–6 weeks for a bespoke commission. We will set the horns at another spread, change the purple, or cut the block to another plan. Open the spread and the stems are drawn heavier, because each horn then reaches further from where it is held. One crate, and the horns arrive already set in the block. Two people, hands under the block and never on a coil. Our main studios are in the UK (Birmingham) and Dubai, with additional global workshops.

Two purple horns coiling on slender stems lead to our organic sculptures; their wound metal coils join our metal sculptures, and a sideboard-length wall suits them among our indoor sculptures.

Specification

Height

40cm

Width

49.2cm

Depth

36cm

Base

12 x 12 x 20cm

Material

Coiled Metal on a Clear Cast Resin Block
