orange-and-yellow-banded-crescent-blade-resin-sculpture-70cm
Orange & Yellow Banded Crescent Blade Resin Sculpture - 70cm

Description

A long, shallow crescent of resin built from bands laid edge to edge, its top edge running almost straight and its underside sweeping down in a gentle curve to a fine point at either end. From one point to the other the bands run orange scored with raised marks, a clear yellow, clear resin streaked with dark waves, a single red stripe, a rippled yellow, an orange spattered with darker droplets and, at the far point, clear resin ribbed like a comb. Two small round notches are cut into the top edge, and the blade stands upright in a small block of black marble, which is included.

Bands of Colour and Texture Along a Shallow Crescent

Each band is given a surface of its own as well as a colour, which keeps a row of stripes from reading as a flag. The orange at one end is scored with short raised marks, the clear band near the middle is streaked through with dark, wavering lines like wood grain or moving water, the second yellow is rippled, and the broad orange beyond it is spattered with darker droplets that stand up from the surface and catch the light. The far point is left clear and ribbed across its width, so the run of colour ends in a cool, combed tip instead of stopping dead, and the single narrow red stripe near the centre holds the eye just above the black block.

Set side on, so the whole run of bands is seen at once, it will sit along a sideboard, a deep shelf or the back of a broad desk. A window or a lamp behind it wakes the clear bands and the yellows and warms the orange, where light from the front alone leaves them flat. A pale wall shows the dark waves in the clear band at their sharpest. Leave room at both ends, which narrow to fine points. Indoor use only.

Bands, a Black Block and Delivery

Plan for 3–4 weeks on a standard piece and 5–6 weeks on a bespoke commission. The colours can be changed band by band on request, the textures kept or exchanged, and the red stripe moved, widened or repeated; the clear bands can be tinted, and the dark waves left out for plain clear resin. The block beneath can be cut in white marble in place of black. Other lengths of crescent are possible too, with the bands redrawn to suit. Its crate is slim and padded, both points protected inside it, and to lift it one hand goes beneath the black block and the other under the middle of the blade, never at either point. Our main studios are in the UK (Birmingham) and Dubai, with additional global workshops.

Bands of orange, yellow, red and clear resin drawn along one shallow crescent sit among our organic sculptures, our resin sculptures and our contemporary and modern sculptures.

Specification

Height

12cm

Width

70cm

Depth

7cm

Base

9.2 x 8 x 7.8cm

Material

Cast Resin in Orange, Yellow, Red and Clear Bands on Black Marble
