The pair of upright metal plates is supplied, and the pebble lies across them rather than on top of one.\u003c\/p\u003e\u003ch2\u003eA Colour That Will Not Settle\u003c\/h2\u003e\u003cp\u003eAn opalescent body is the one finish in this range that cannot be shown honestly in a single view, because the colour it gives depends entirely on where the light is and where you stand. Laying the mass across two plates rather than setting it on one puts a gap under the middle of it, so the piece is read against daylight from below as well as from the sides. The mass is neither clear nor opaque, so the colour it shows changes with where you stand and never quite settles. Polished to a high sheen over the whole mass, which is what makes the opalescence read.\u003c\/p\u003e\u003cp\u003eA hall, a gallery or a wide landing, where it can be walked around. A plain ground behind it, because the colour already changes enough on its own. The colour follows the light: the same face reads pink from one side and green from the other. The mass is drawn out or drawn in, the plates are finished in another metal, and the colour is limited to one.
