The order they are laid in is what the piece stands or falls by. Colour drawn through a clear body rather than onto it is why nothing here reads as painted: each frond carries its run from edge to edge and the colour changes as the frond turns. Polished over every frond, with the cut edges left sharp.\u003c\/p\u003e\u003cp\u003eIt needs room on a floor rather than a surface, with space to walk round it. A pale wall behind it, since a piece carrying every colour needs a ground that carries none. Backlight is what it is drawn for; front light returns the colours and loses the depth behind them. At a distance it is one bright mass, and the individual fronds separate as you approach.\u003c\/p\u003e\u003ch2\u003eFewer Colours, a Narrower Spread, and a Pallet\u003c\/h2\u003e\u003cp\u003eWhether it is standard or bespoke sets the build: 3–4 weeks or 5–6. If you would rather a quieter piece, the colour count is set before any frond is drawn, and the spread comes in with it. Take colours out and the fronds are redrawn wider, because what separates them at a distance is the change and not the edge. Palleted in one crate and stood where it is wanted.
