The colour belongs to the angle rather than to the material: a face that reads teal from one side turns amber, violet or nearly clear from another.\u003c\/p\u003e\u003ch2\u003eTen Dichroic Spires, Each Cut to Its Own Section\u003c\/h2\u003e\u003cp\u003eDichroic acrylic changes colour with the angle it is seen from, so the cutting matters as much as the material. Each spire is a prism with flat faces and crisp arrises, and its tip is faceted down to a point, so every face holds a single field of colour and every edge shows as a fine bright line between two of them. The sections are not repeated from spire to spire: some are slim and nearly square, others broad and flattened. Stood together, the faces of one spire take up the colours of its neighbours, and the group shifts as you walk past it.\u003c\/p\u003e\u003cp\u003eSpire A, at 122cm, puts its point level with a standing adult's chest and is placed on open floor in a hall, on a stair landing or in a gallery, while the short spires are at home on a broad shelf or along a sideboard. Because each is bought singly, a group can be gathered over time and set at staggered heights. Every spire carries its own price, so one point or a whole cluster is ordered letter by letter. On commission the dichroic finish can lean cool, into blue and violet, or warm, into amber and green; a spire can be drawn at a new height or on a broader section, and plain clear acrylic suits anyone who wants a quieter point. Each one is lifted upright with both hands low on its broad faces, never by the tip, and the tall spires need a second person to steady them as they are stood.
