Every line of the figure has to be arranged so that nothing crosses the face of the stone: the reaching arm passes above it, the gown falls to one side of it, and the lilies are massed on the corner where they break the outline without touching the field. The lilies are undercut so the stems read as separate. The antiqued surface carries a beige tone through its veining, warmer in the shadows than across the lit faces.\u003c\/p\u003e\u003cp\u003eA stele memorial of this height belongs on a full grave plot in a churchyard, a cemetery, a family enclosure or a walled memorial garden. The antiqued surface settles into an older burial ground where the surrounding stones have already weathered, and looks out of place against new polished granite. The antiqued surface is worked over the whole piece at the end so figure and stele weather as one. The stele face arrives blank and takes your own wording in whichever lettering you settle on, or stays bare for a local mason.
