The three columns have to be the same width and the same depth of cut, and the family name across the head has to centre on the middle column rather than on the stone, or the whole face reads as leaning. That layout is struck on the polished granite in wax before a single letter is cut, and the wax is what gets corrected.\u003c\/p\u003e\u003cp\u003eA three-dedication stone is a family grave by definition, so it needs a plot that will take successive interments and a position where the face is read square on rather than at an angle. An established churchyard or a cemetery lawn section suits it. Leave room to lift the base slab if the plot is reopened.
