The wall is thinned deliberately at the two crests and left full everywhere else, so the piece has exactly two places where it stops being opaque and both of them are where the eye goes first. Resin at this density reads black in the mass and green in the thin places, which stone cannot do. The gloss is what separates this from a black object: the room arrives in it and gives the form back.\u003c\/p\u003e\u003cp\u003eA sideboard takes this; it is long and it wants to be read across rather than down. It needs a pale wall. Against dark panelling a near-black piece simply disappears. It needs directional light. Under flat lighting a piece this dark shows nothing but its outline. The green is brought up so it shows across the whole wall, the finish is left matt, and the block is cut in pale marble. Bring the green up and the wall is thinned to let it show, which changes how the two crests sit. Two parts, one crate, and the wave is lowered onto the block after the block is level. It is lifted at the low middle, where the wall is fullest, never by a crest or a tip, since there is nothing to hold at the ends.
