It stands clear of the body from the hands down to the base and it is the slenderest thing in the piece, so it is left as a solid column of waste stone until the figure around it is finished, and only then cut free and shaped. Turning it upside down is the old sign for a life ended. The marble is a warm white with grey-brown veining through the gown and base.\u003c\/p\u003e\u003cp\u003eAt this height it suits a single plot, a cremation plot, a lawn section or a memorial garden bed, and a mirrored pair flanking a path or a plot entrance reads better than one alone. Each figure sits on its own base slab, so a pair needs two prepared beds set to the same level.
