What changes is the depth it has to travel through before it gets back out, so the piece looks brightest exactly where there is least of it. Stacking thin plates in a clear body means every edge returns a line of light, and the material gives back more at the points than at the foot because there is less to pass through. The plate faces are polished and the edges are left as cut, which is what makes each one visible.\u003c\/p\u003e\u003cp\u003eIt suits a desk or a shelf at seated eye height, where the plate edges are in line with the eye. A dark ground behind it, so that the bright plate edges have something to register against. Light from one side turns every edge into a line; from in front it is a single grey mass.
