The green fills the terraces where the two meet, so the joint is a run of steps rather than a line, and the top returns the ceiling while the timber below absorbs it.\u003c\/p\u003e\u003ch2\u003eStepped Timber Meeting a Mirror Green Top\u003c\/h2\u003e\u003cp\u003eThe drum is glued up from strips and then stepped in terraces on a lathe, and each terrace has to be cut to a depth the resin can fill, because a step too deep traps air and one too shallow disappears under the tint. The green is poured over the stepped rim so it locks into the timber rather than sitting on it. The top is then taken to a mirror, which is the slow part: the material is soft enough to hold every scratch, so it is worked up through grades and finished by hand.\u003c\/p\u003e\u003cp\u003eIt fills the centre of a seating group, and being round it has no wrong side to approach from. The mirror top returns whatever is above it, so a plain ceiling serves it better than a busy one. The timber drum reaches almost to the floor, which means the piece reads as solid from a seated position and hides whatever is behind it.\u003c\/p\u003e\u003ch2\u003eThe Terraces, the Green, and Choosing the Board\u003c\/h2\u003e\u003cp\u003eLead times run 5–6 weeks bespoke and 3–4 standard. The time goes on the terraced joint. Three things are settled at order. The board is glued up from what is in stock at the time, so its tone is agreed before work starts. The top can be taken to any tint or left clear. Laminated diameter and drum reach are cut to your figures. For a matching group, the step of the terraces is set once and carried through it. The mirrored top and the stepped timber are padded separately, and the piece travels upright so nothing rests on the polished face.
