Standing, it is a rounded body drawn up and over into a fine curling tip. Lying, it is a low hull with the same tip rising and curling at one end. Both carry fine horizontal striations across the last third before the ground.\u003c\/p\u003e\u003ch2\u003eHorizontal Bands Under a Curled Tip\u003c\/h2\u003e\u003cp\u003eThe banding is what distinguishes this from the rest of the range: the striations run across the body rather than up it, in fine close bands stacked one above the next, and because they follow the swell of the form they crowd where it narrows and spread where it fills out. They occupy the bottom third only, so the object divides into a smooth glossy upper mass and a ruled band beneath, and the join between them is a clean horizontal that gives a small piece an unexpectedly architectural base. Above it the tip is drawn out of the smooth part, thinned and turned over, and at this size it is barely thicker than a pencil at the very end. Green is carried in the material and darkest where the body is deepest, clearing almost to nothing in the tip itself, so the object is heaviest in tone exactly where it is heaviest in mass.\u003c\/p\u003e\u003cp\u003eThese are desk and shelf objects. They take almost no room: a writing desk, a bookshelf, a mantelpiece or a hall table will take either. Both want a plain surface and a plain ground behind them, because the tip is a fine element and it disappears against anything patterned. The lying version reads best from above, where the curl and the bands are both in view, and the standing one reads best at eye level. Neither is heavy for its size, so a shelf where a sleeve will catch it is the wrong place. Set it on something pale; a dark surface swallows the green entirely. The two are priced individually because neither is the other at a different size, so choose the attitude you want in the picker. They were designed to be taken together, and standing beside one another the pair reads as one gesture and its echo, which is how most orders go out. On the material: this bottle green is standard, and an amber, a smoke grey and a colourless version are all made, with the depth adjustable so the whole body can be brought to the near-clear of the tip. The banding can be run higher up the body, taken over the whole form, or left off entirely for a plain surface. The standing version is also made at a greater height to order, at which size the tip becomes considerably finer against the body. Either is boxed standing with the tip in its own moulded pocket, since that is the part that would suffer, and either will go under one arm.
