Pale green through the body deepening at the foot, with the fanned crown the palest part of it. A black stone block comes with the piece and sits under the narrow foot.

A Figure That Turns Twice Before the Crown

A frosted surface refuses to show the far side of the figure, so each turn of the body has to be followed on its own. A form that doubles back is read one turn at a time on a frosted surface, because nothing of the far side comes through to give the shape away in advance. Frosting the body is the only thing stopping the light at the surface, so a figure that doubles back is read edge by edge instead of all at once. Frosted over the whole casting, including the inside of the fan.

It wants a sideboard or a hall table, with the fan carried above the eye rather than level with it. A dark ground behind it, because a pale frosted body against a pale wall loses its edge. Light from above fills the fan; light from the foot lights the block and leaves the figure flat. The fan pulls the eye upward from wherever you happen to be standing.

Opening the Fan, and a Block That Needs No Tools

Plan for 3–4 weeks on a standard piece and 5–6 weeks on a bespoke commission. Ask us to open the fan, to deepen the green, or to make the figure at another height. Open the fan and the plan widens at the crown, with the body below drawn fuller so that the whole thing reads settled. One crate, the block packed at the foot, and the two go together without tools. Two people, carried by the body. The fan is not a handle. Our main studios are in the UK (Birmingham) and Dubai, with additional global workshops.

A frosted green figure opening into a fan belongs to our organic sculptures; the pale green casting joins our resin sculptures, and its fan wants lifting above the eye among our indoor sculptures.

Specification

Height

100cm

Width

26cm

Depth

11cm

Base

25 x 20 x 6cm

Material

Frosted Green Cast Resin on Natural Marble
