The material is an imitation jade composite, semi-translucent rather than clear, which is what gives the folds their depth of colour without the piece reading as glass. Seat height is adjusted at order, which is worth doing if the chair is going beside a particular table or window seat, because the arms reach the floor and the whole silhouette scales with it rather than the seat alone moving. A seat pad is made to match if the chair is to be used for longer sittings than an occasional one; it sits loose in the pan and is not fixed. The chair ships as one piece in a fitted crate and is carried with a hand under the seat and both arms supported, because the flared tips are the most exposed part of it and the least able to take a knock.
