The colour climbs the curl on the left side and is spent before the curl turns over, so the twisting band across the top, the thin stem that drops from it into the well and the whole branching crest are clear. That crest is two limbs growing from the band's tip and joining in a loop, with a tall tine and two short prongs where they meet and a little upright tine on the outer limb. A long arm reaching out on the right is gold at its root and clear in its upturned points.\u003c\/p\u003e\u003ch2\u003eGolden Yellow Rising From an Amber Foot\u003c\/h2\u003e\u003cp\u003eWarm colour is hard to keep light, because a little too much of it turns heavy and brown. In this splash the yellow is graded: amber only in the deepest part of the well, a clear, sunny gold through the spikes and the lattice of loops, a lemon wash on the curl, and then nothing. The point where it runs out sits just below the band, so the band and the crest are read as clear water thrown up from a golden pool, and their edges catch bright white highlights against the warmth beneath. No line marks where the gold stops.\u003c\/p\u003e\u003cp\u003eWarm golden resin belongs with warm materials: oak floors, walnut, leather, old brass and rooms that take the afternoon sun. Placed where a broad hall turns, or on a low dais in a living room, its 102cm suits a spot that people walk towards, looking down into the well while the clear crest rises against a plain wall behind. Sunlight from the side sets the gold glowing and the crest sparkling. The yellow can be mixed paler, towards lemon, or richer, towards amber, and allowed to climb further up the curl or kept low in the well. The crest's tines can be lengthened or kept compact, and the splash can be made at a scale chosen for the room. It goes out standing upright in a fitted crate, the tines cushioned clear of the lid, and arrives whole, to be raised from under the well.
