A frosted face scatters light, which is what makes the cube read as a soft solid, but scattering also flattens the gradient behind it - taken too far the pink becomes an even wash and the whole point is lost. So the frost is held to a depth that still lets the grade read through it, and that depth is judged against the strength of the pink rather than set to a figure. The pad is made to sit squarely on the top face, inset from its edges by an even margin all round, so the frosted rim frames it like a mount round a picture.\u003c\/p\u003e\u003cp\u003eA padded cube works as a seat and as a surface when nobody is on it, which is why it pays its way at a bed end, in a dressing room or beside a bath. At 45cm it is seat height. A frosted pink carries its own colour whatever the light does, which makes it far simpler to place than a colourless piece. Pad fabric is chosen from a range and can be supplied in a plain weave, a velvet or a leather. The grade can be reversed to put the colour at the top, run corner to corner, or replaced by an even tint. Other colours come from the same stock. The cube is cut to order in other sizes and the pad follows. It arrives with the pad already in place, and one person can lift it. It travels boxed on all six faces, a frosted arris being the part that shows a knock.
