Each line is cut to the same depth and blacked, and where two lines meet the cut has to stop dead rather than run through, or the join reads as a blot at arm\\u2019s length. The face is sawn flat and left matte so the black lines carry, and the salt-and-pepper grey of the granite is what gives them something to sit against.\u003c\/p\u003e\u003cp\u003eAn engraved figure reads best square on and at close range, so this suits a children section, a lawn plot or a cremation plot rather than a position seen from an angle. The vase takes real flowers, so leave the side clear.
