An oval opening passes right through the body beneath the seat, and the four legs are squared and gently tapered. The surface is glossy all over.

An Inky Purple Stool Clearing to Amber

With a colour this dark, the light does the drawing. In the thick seat and the shoulders the purple is close to black, and the bright reflections along every rounded edge pick the shape out against it. Through the opening the resin is thinner and the purple shows its true colour, a clear violet. Further down, the tint gives way to amber in the legs and then to almost nothing, so the stool appears to stand on four columns of light. No two casts grade at exactly the same height.

At 45cm it sits next to a reading chair as a small table, or pulls up to a coffee table as a seat. The dark colour holds its own against bright upholstery and needs a pale floor to show the amber legs. Light from behind it brings up the violet in the opening, and a lamp beside it makes the seat glow. Indoor use only.

Purple Depth, the Opening and the Legs

It takes 3–4 weeks to make as standard, and 5–6 weeks to make bespoke. The purple can be taken deeper still or lightened to a plum, and the amber can run higher up the body or stop at the feet. Instead of the oval, a round or square opening can be cut, or none at all for a solid block, and the legs can be rounded rather than squared. It is a solid casting, and it travels in its own crate with the top protected. Our main studios are in the UK (Birmingham) and Dubai, with additional global workshops.

Pieces of seating made as sculpture fill our art furniture; dark tinted casts like this are among our resin sculptures, and the rounded, pierced form sits with our organic sculptures.

Specification

Height

45cm

Width

40cm

Depth

40cm

Material

Tinted Cast Resin
