colourless-folded-side-cast-resin-low-table-130cm
Colourless Folded Side Cast Resin Low Table - 130cm

Description

Seen from above this cast resin sculpted low table is a plain rectangle with a level top, and an inner region of the top face is worked with a shallow rippled relief. Everything below that line is different. Both long sides and both ends drop away into deep crumpled folds, thick and thin by turns, and between the two ends an arch is cut clear through so the slab stands on a mass at each end rather than on legs. The resin is colourless and polished hard, so each fold shows again through the body of the piece from any angle you take.

Folds Down Every Side, Flat on Top

One straight line against a great deal of chaos, and that single contrast carries the piece. The top is level and its outline is a plain rectangle. Everything beneath is worked into deep crumpled folds that run down all four faces, thick where they gather and thin where they pull apart, with no repeat the eye can catch along the length. An arch is cut clear through between the two ends, so the slab stands on a mass at each end and the floor line is as irregular as the top is straight. Because the material is colourless and polished hard, every fold appears a second time through the body of the piece, offset from the first, and the two readings shift as you move. An inner region of the top face carries a shallow rippled relief, which keeps the flat plane from reading as glass.

It is a substantial low table for in front of a wide sofa, and it wants generous clear floor around it. The folds are the whole piece, so it should stand where more than one side is seen rather than pushed back. A plain floor is essential: a pattern reads straight through the body and the folds lose their separation. Very heavy, and four people to place. Indoors.

The Arch, the Folds, and Delivery

Delivery follows a 3–4 week build as standard, or a 5–6 week build if bespoke. Three aspects can be specified. The length is quoted to your figure, the resin is offered tinted as well as clear, and the arch beneath can be cut wider. Where the folds fall differs on every piece and cannot be specified. You give the overall length and the top thickness. Order more than one together and the run of the folds down each side is matched across them. Crated with the arch beneath and the thin fold edges protected, it is a four-person lift. Our main studios are in the UK (Birmingham) and Dubai, with additional global workshops.

A level top over folds that crumple down every side gives our art furniture a low table; the chaos below suits our contemporary and modern sculptures, and a wide sofa's front our indoor sculptures.

Specification

Height

45cm

Width

130cm

Depth

90cm

Material

Optically Clear Cast Resin
