Five points leaning outward put their whole weight on a narrow base, so the material has to gather there, and a piece that gathers material at the bottom normally looks bottom-heavy. The colour answers that directly: the cobalt is densest exactly where the mass is, and it brightens as the points rise, so the darkest material is the smallest part of the silhouette and the broad open top is the brightest blue on the piece. Read from a few paces the bright top appears almost weightless above the dark foot, though the outward lean of the points is exactly what loads that foot.\u003c\/p\u003e\u003cp\u003eA hall console or a wide low table takes it, and it needs headroom rather than depth, since the five points reach out as they rise. Light from above runs down the inside of each point and is the arrangement it is built for. A dark surface beneath makes the cobalt foot read as shadow, so a pale one is better. Five points drawn up from one foot means the piece opens as it rises, so it is broadest where it is furthest from the surface and reads as lighter than it is.\u003c\/p\u003e\u003ch2\u003ePoints, the Cobalt, and Delivery\u003c\/h2\u003e\u003cp\u003eIt takes 3–4 weeks to make as standard, and 5–6 weeks to make bespoke. The point count is set to four or six, and the cobalt can be graded from the tips inward instead of from the foot. The splash is cast at other heights, and the foot is thickened in proportion. Four points make a calmer arrangement and six a considerably denser one, both on the same foot. It ships in one crate packed around the foot with each point boxed clear, and two people should lift it.
