Colourless through every sphere, with the bronze disc beneath the only colour in the arrangement. The bronze disc is included, far broader than the stack and deep enough to lift it.

Every Sphere Carrying the Room Inside It

The spheres are solid rather than hollow, which is what lets each of them carry an image at all: a shell would return the room from its surface and show nothing inside. It is also what the weight comes from, and why the disc beneath is as wide as it is. Acrylic cast solid rather than hollow is why every sphere carries the room inside it instead of on its surface, and what appears in them is upside down. Polished over every sphere, with the disc beneath left brushed.

It needs a hall floor with more than one way up to it. Give it something worth looking at behind, because every sphere will show it. Light from above and to one side; each sphere takes a bright point and the arrangement reads as a run of them. The two arms carry across a hall and what is inside the spheres arrives at about two paces.

More Spheres, Another Finish, and a Pallet

Making a standard piece takes 3–4 weeks, and making a bespoke one 5–6. We will add spheres, set the arms at another angle, or exchange the bronze for another finish. Add a sphere and the arm beneath is drawn heavier, since each one is set against what it holds up. How many spheres go in is settled before any are made. It travels on a pallet in a single crate and goes straight to its place. Four people and a trolley, with the disc going down first. Our main studios are in the UK (Birmingham) and Dubai, with additional global workshops.

Solid acrylic spheres stacked into two arms lead to our acrylic sculptures; the broad bronze disc beneath them joins our metal sculptures, and floor space in a hall approached from several sides gives it its stage in our indoor sculptures.

Specification

Height

115.8cm

Width

62.7cm

Depth

51.5cm

Base

120 x 120 x 26.5cm

Material

Solid Acrylic on a Bronze Disc
