Nothing is added to the material and there is no base: it stands on the surface itself.\u003c\/p\u003e\u003ch2\u003eA Spire Is the One Thing That Cannot Be Softened\u003c\/h2\u003e\u003cp\u003eAlmost every feature on a cast landscape tolerates being a little soft. A slope that is slightly rounded is still a slope; a shoulder that has lost its edge is still a shoulder. A spire is the exception, because a spire IS its point - round the very tip and the whole element stops being a spire and becomes a bump. So the tips are the last thing finished on the piece and the first thing looked at afterwards, and a casting whose points have not come up is not corrected, it is remade.\u003c\/p\u003e\u003cp\u003eThe spires are fine enough to be caught by a sleeve, so this is not a piece for a hall table people pass close to. A shelf above waist height, a console against a wall or a display case all suit it. Its crackled surface wants light across it, which is what makes the points read against their own body.\u003c\/p\u003e\u003ch2\u003ePoint Count, a Tint, and Getting It Home\u003c\/h2\u003e\u003cp\u003eMaking a standard piece takes 3–4 weeks, and making a bespoke one 5–6. The two spires are the sharpest points on the piece, and a spire that loses its tip stops being one. The number of points is set at order, the spires are drawn blunter for a position where they might be caught, and a tint is run through the body. The blunt version is a safer object in a busy room and a quieter one on a shelf. It is packed in one case with each spire sleeved separately, and it is lifted out by the massif.
