The striations combed into the crest are the finest work on the piece and they have to survive the polish, which is why the outside is taken to a mirror before the top is cut. Holding a solid cylinder this deep free of air is what sets the schedule. The cut top is worked flat last and its arris left true rather than eased.\u003c\/p\u003e\u003cp\u003eAt 48cm this stands beside a chair as a drinks table, and the flat cut top is the only level surface on it. The crest is read through the body, so what is behind the cylinder becomes part of what is seen in it - a plain wall serves it far better than a patterned one. The set crest is what fills it. Three aspects can be specified. A cylinder of another height carries the wave at its own scale. The crest can be set at any point in the body and the material can be tinted. You give the cylinder span and the block height. Specify the whole group at once and the curl of the crest is held through it. The flat top and the set crest are boxed with the cylinder standing, so the piece bears on its own base the whole way.
