The long faces of the timber are planed before it goes in, and the barked edges are left exactly as they came off the tree, with the resin closing against the bark without a gap. The cut end at the top is brought flush with the block rather than left standing proud of it.\u003c\/p\u003e\u003cp\u003eAt 87cm this is a plinth rather than a table: it stands at standing height and is made to carry a single object at eye level in a hall, a landing or a gallery corner. Most of it is the timber section. Three things can change. The species of the timber is yours to name, the block can be tinted rather than clear, and the section can be set on the diagonal instead of upright. The block span and the overall height are named by you. When the figure in the timber section has to agree across pieces, they are made in one run. Packing keeps the cut end of the timber and the block arris off the crate walls, and it is a two-person carry.
