clear-rolled-seat-cast-resin-chair-65cm
Clear Rolled Seat Cast Resin Chair - 65cm

Description

A clear cast chair on three plain legs, two at the front and one under the middle of the back. The back is a wide gently domed panel that stands almost vertical. The seat below it rolls forward and downward into a deep lip that overhangs the front legs by several centimetres. The resin is polished to a gloss and stays see-through, so the back leg shows through the seat.

A Deep Rolled Lip Below a Broad Domed Back

Two features carry this chair. The first is the back, set a little inside the width of the seat and domed just enough that its centre stands proud of its edges, so it reads as a single broad shield rather than as a panel with sides. The second is the roll at the front of the seat, deep and generous: the material turns under and comes back, forming a lip with a shadow beneath it that runs the full width. That shadow is the strongest dark line on the whole object, and it is what stops a clear chair reading flat. The resin is clear right through, so back and seat separate by shape and by the light caught along their edges, without any change of material. All three legs are plain cylinders.

At 65cm to the top of the back, this sits between a dining chair and a low occasional chair, which suits it to a desk, a console, or a single chair by a window rather than a dining table. The wide back reads well from behind, so it stands better in the open than pushed against a wall. Clear resin takes on the colour of what is around it, so it will read warm in a room of timber and cool in a white one. Hard floors suit the flat feet. Indoors only.

The Depth of the Roll, and How Wide the Back Runs

Where the piece is standard the build is 3–4 weeks, and where it is bespoke 5–6. Two of the choices here change the chair's whole weight. The depth of the seat roll, from this pronounced lip through to a light radius, which changes the whole weight of the chair. The width of the back relative to the seat, since a back carried out to the full width of the seat reads as a completely different object. And the finish, which stays clear and glossy as standard or can be frosted to a silver grey or a plain white. The frame can be built to any plan and any back height you name. The crate holds the chair complete, and one person can move it. Our main studios are in the UK (Birmingham) and Dubai, with additional global workshops.

A broad domed back over a rolled lip marks this clear chair out within our art furniture, while the glossy see-through casting ties it to our resin sculptures and the chair as a whole to our indoor sculptures.

Specification

Height

65cm

Width

50cm

Depth

50cm

Material

Clear Cast Resin
