The top stays within a true plane, so a glass set anywhere on it stands square despite the ripples, while the underside is left running and pulled into points of very different lengths. Only some of those points reach the floor, and the ones that do are noticeably heavier than the rest. The whole of the underside is in view from a seat, so it is polished as carefully as the top. On a hard floor the drips throw a shifting pattern of light and shadow beneath the table under any directional lamp, and that pattern is part of the piece rather than a side effect of it.\u003c\/p\u003e\u003cp\u003eThis is a large coffee table, sized for a corner group or two sofas facing each other rather than a single one. It is at its best where light can reach it low and from the side, and on a hard floor the cast pattern below becomes part of the piece. The tips are the contact points, so a hard flat floor suits it and deep pile does not. It is heavy for its footprint and once sited it should be left. This table travels upside down, and that is deliberate rather than convenient: it sits on its own top in a fitted pallet with the drips in the air, because the drip tips will not take the weight of the slab through a lorry journey the way the slab will take its own. It is turned upright on site by four people, two lifting and two steadying the drips, in the room it is going to stand in rather than in a hallway, since the piece is not meant to be carried far once it is the right way up. Check the floor is level before turning it: the contact points are at slightly different lengths and a sloping floor puts the load onto two of them. The slab is made round or square at other spans, and the ripple depth is specified shallower for a calmer top. Tints are available, though the piece loses its play of light as the colour deepens, so if the drips are the reason for buying it, keep it clear.
