The shell is clear and finely ribbed, and the ribbing is the harder half of it: close vertical flutes run the full height of the back and then continue forward across the seat, crossing the fold between them without a break or a change of pitch. Because the shell is clear, that ribbing is what gives it any shape at all - light catches every crest and the piece reads as a corrugated sheet rather than a plane. The frame is the opposite: opaque black, squared in section, four legs rising into two arms, and it carries everything. The shell touches it only at its outer edges.
